What is Thai Yoga? In a very tiny nutshell, it’s a system of healing drawn from Tibetan, Indian and Chinese medicinal practices and held intact by Thai Buddhist monks over the centuries.
What does that actually mean on the mat? Thai Yoga is a nurturing and energizing treatment that moves the receiver through an asana – a flow of postures and meridian release work, beginning with puja, or, respect to our lineages - yours as receiver and mine as practitioner, and then, bringing in rhythmic compression, rocking, and deep stretching to loosen chronic tension, reduce pain, increase range of motion, support recovery in a variety of soft tissue issues and, in the esoteric layers, this yoga helps break up karmic blockages and energetic stagnation.
What to wear? Loose comfortable clothing, natural fibers if possible (cotton for example). The work takes place on the floor. Most of the session is passive for the receiver, however, there is a lot of movement throughout. Women are encouraged to wear sports bras or no bras at all. Freedom people!
One of the traditional names of Thai Yoga is ‘nuat phan boran thai’ which means, ‘ The old Thai way of healing with the hands.’
Thai Yoga sessions are 75$ and are often between 70 and 90 minutes.
